    President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo led the awarding of 153 motorized fishing boats for the fisherfolks of Initao, Lugait and Manticao municipalities and Iligan City in Misamis Oriental.

    President Arroyo awarded the fishing boats to its beneficiaries as part of the Integrated Services Livelihood istance for Region 10. The award for alternative livelihood programs costing more than P200,000 was given to the fisherfolks of Manticao. The fishermen of Iligan City also received a certificate of award for alternative livelihood projects and a common service facility.

    ISLA is a project of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) that will ist the fisherfolk beneficiaries in developing their livelihood programs into better businesses for an improved trade.

    The president also conferred a Presidential Medal of Merit to Mr. Jeong Sup Shim, former president of Hanjin Heavy Industries and Construction Philippines Inc. for his significant contributions in shipbuilding.
