Have you ever been tied up and abused, harassed and beaten up constantly while others are watching you and no one is helping you? I feel exactly the same right now.

I feel worthless, devastated and suicidal because my computer science professor has been harassing me throughout the semester academically and personally just because I’m gay.

He has been telling me that I’m disgusting and that he will do anything and everything to ruin my 4.0 GPA and in turn, my life. My 4.0 GPA is very important to me because I’m applying to very competitive schools as a transfer student. My parents have lost their means of livelihood and cannot sponsor my education. I have to be dependent on full scholarship from my perspective schools in order to survive academically, and in turn personally. 

This professor has been giving me several projects and accepting only a few of them. In addition to that, he has been telling me that he will not help me with any of my questions about the classwork. I have reported the harassment to the chair of the computer science department and once wrote an email to the president of my college, but I didn’t get any help. Although I never told them that it is a gay issue since I didn’t feel comfortable telling that and felt like my chances of being supported would be zero, but I did report all the personal and academic harassment to the chair periodically and consistently. 

How would you deal with such harassment and bullying from your professor if you were me?

I am enormously sad that I have tried so hard throughout the semester to get an A in this professor’s class but he’s still giving me a B. He said he would have failed me in the class if he could. 

Please tell me if this is fair. Why do I have to suffer so much and compensate because of who I am? Who will help me?

Well your professor obviously isn’t a nice person! But what you may not be aware of is that he is breaking the law. He is discriminating you just because you are gay. I would catch him out and make him pay for what he’s done. Don’t let him ruin your life, I say you should turn on the recorder on your phone one day and make him admit what he’s been doing or at least catch him as he’s confessing his cruel method’s to you. About how he would ‘fail you if he could’. You need evidence of that and once you have it you make a complaint either to the highest person at your college or go straight to the police and make a formal complaint whilst showing your evidence. Get friends involved, make them help you out with it all- if they are a witness to any of this. Your life shouldn’t be ruined or tormented just because of your sexuality! Tell your parents get them involved. You seriously need to get this sorted because this person should not be at that college if he is not open minded about things like that. Hope this helps:/

Facioscapulohumeral Muscular Dystrophy, is most commonly onset at the age of twenty, which I recently "turned". I’ve always had a slim, but fit structure; muscularly taunt and… youthful. Every day I walk back to my dorm after classes (such as "Speech Communication, where I am required and project myself as a credible conjecture. And and that conjecture, is that, constant reminder; the mirror. Every week, my pectorals retreat to my torso. I’ve labeled my scapulars, "budding wings" to lighten the conjuncture that I am displaying every exasperated symptom. The world before me is seen with eyes in darkened sockets, as the noise of muscular degeneration is simply; almost too loud to function within reality’s reflections reminding me. The loss of definition, in terms of my facial, lower leg, bicep (which is malformed, mind you), and chest muscles. I am at the age where.. I truly have the chance to go out into the world and live my dreams. But I am reminded daily, that I am displaying symptoms that may point to a rare, inherited disease that diminishes nearly all forms of physical credibility in the modern man. My face, gasps at you through a sharp, blemished cheek; sunken eyes, and the most peculiar muscle use of my mouth. I am not trying to convey the stereotypical whinging of a youth, I am NOT saying "My life is impossible to function in." Rather I am attempting to convey the seriousness of a un-diagnosed disease, and that I have had no major attempt to do so. There is no known cure for facioscapulohumeral muscular dystrophy. Treatments are given to control symptoms and improve the person’s quality of life. Activity is encouraged. Inactivity such as bedrest can make the muscle disease worse. Physical therapy may help maintain muscle strength.

I see the word "professional actor" being thrown around a bit here.

You may point fingers, get your theatre hat on and say "in this book I’ve written, I’ve said this and that" but at the end of the day – that is your opinion and it is pretty presumptuous to use your title ("the tao") in that way. Heck I could create a Youtube video and title it "My sh*t don’t stink approach with Acting" but at the end of the day it doesn’t make either one of us a deities.

Well, I am at the tender age of 41 now, and I grew up on the stage from the age of 3 through now (with a break or two thrown in for giving birth and time between shows).

Of course, please consider that I have never written a book myself. See, I have been much too busy actually PRACTICING my art/talent on a live stage in front of an actual audience.

This year, I was hired here in Boston based on my audition (my first paying acting role). I have heard from other locals that it’s extremely rare here in Boston to be signed as a paid actor based solely on a 20 min. audition. So, I guess my 30 plus years on stage were "practice" and I am only now considered a professional. Interesting .

Kids, please don’t think some silly book is going to do more for you than teach you extremely basic rhetoric of being an actor. Actors writing books are counting on making their living off of young performers. Think about that for a moment, those who can’t DO, tend to teach. Do yourselves a favor and take advice from actual performers and not from some writer.

I also CHOSE to wait until my kids were older to audition in Boston, so don’t be scared that you need to wait until age 41 for a paying role.

I believe that more can be learned by actually paying attention to older more experienced actors than you can get from a WRITER (wannabe a real actor). The BP oil spill was caused by man, has contaminated our food supply, has impacted hundreds of thousands of citizens, not to mention the environment.
